About Us

NOUVE, pronounced "noov," began near the end of 2020 as a small Instagram shop run out of our bungalow’s larger bedroom.  Originally named 'Second Chance at Joy,' (the inspiration coming from Kayla's middle name "Joy". After a year the name was officially changed to 'Voyage Vintage.' After a *unique* accident that left Kayla injured for a few months and stir crazy with thoughts and time to work on branding she ultimately landed on NOUVE—an acronym for "New-to-You, Old, Unique, Vintage, Eclectic" goods.

NOUVE isn't tied to a time period but is instead based on quality, character, craftsmanship, materials, and design—guided by Kayla’s eye and ever growing knowledge of the field.

In 2020, the store focused entirely online since many were still confined to their homes due to covid and Kayla focused on bringing curated collections with different themes on a bi-monthly basis. Come 2021 Kayla spent most of the summer participating in over 15+ local markets to help bring more balance to how often items were shipped vs. locally picked up. 

In 2022, Kayla continued to regularly post collections on a bi-monthly basis to instagram, participated in local 1-3 day markets and had two booths set up in local vintage shops in the city. 

Since instagram allows us to connect to people all over we found at least 50% of items were shipped out on a weekly basis so in 2023 we launched a website, allowing us to reach customers beyond Utah (and people using instagram) in a much more time efficient way long-term & allowed for much easier shopping than scrolling IG and gave customers shipping calculations on the spot. 

In 2024, we had an opportunity to sublease a space in downtown slc for a week and host a week-long pop-up to determine if a permanent location would work for us. We had 24 hours to set up and were blown away by the support of Salt Lake City (somehow even Post Malone made it to the event). The building allowed us to extend our pop-up spot for an extra month which gave us time to work out the details of opening a permanent location.  Kayla had her eye on a cottage just a few blocks from our house that was previously rented by a vintage clothing shop. On her way to work the pop-up she noticed a "For Rent" sign has been hung up and within 48 hours we had signed a lease. 

Now nestled behind Mrs. Backer’s Pastry Shop, our iconic pink storefront has become a hub for vintage and eclectic treasures. We work to create a warm and inviting space with carefully curated aesthetics, scents, music, and local recommendations for those new to Salt Lake City.

Beyond retail, we also have provided staging services for the last 4 years. Helping homeowners and real estate agents enhance their homes with personality-filled pieces in uniquely designed spaces. Since 2020, we have staged over 40 properties, increasing sale value and reducing time on the market. Our expertise is in making older homes with unique layouts feel more functional and making newer builds have more unique character.

At the heart of NOUVE is a commitment to sustainability, retaining vintage character, reconceptualizing old pieces for new purpose and supporting local artisans while making Salt Lake City more beautiful inside and out. Every piece we curate has a story and showcases the beauty of timeless craftsmanship. 

With a focus on upcycling & using what has already been made all of our packing, wrapping and boxes are from recycled materials. Ok, we do have to purchase extra bubble wrap every so often. 

Even our tags are hand-cut and handwritten on discarded old office folders (a little slice of our old corporate life in our small business).
